Everything Simple Locale brings to a multilingual visualization.
New or moved objects can be picked up manually at any time – only empty cells get translated, existing (including manually corrected) translations stay untouched. Automatic rescanning on a timer interval is part of the Pro Edition.
You can edit any translation directly in the form - already-filled cells are never automatically overwritten on the next rescan. Direct editing of the scanned object names/custom texts is part of the Pro Edition; in other editions those cells are read-only (your own translation table, from the Standard edition, is unaffected - see "Your own translation table").
Every row in the scanned translation tables (object names, custom texts, Automations, Greeting, enumerations, charts) has a "Translation active" checkbox - switch it off and that text stays in the original language everywhere, e.g. for proper nouns, brand names, or technical abbreviations, and it also stops costing a translation call. Rows that are pure JSON control data are detected and switched off automatically. Your own translation table is excluded, since nothing there is ever auto-translated in the first place. Part of the Pro edition.
Translates not just object/variable names, but also freely maintained string variables (e.g. hint texts). The same goes for Automations and Greeting text, chart legends, and variable-presentation captions in the tile visualization.
Each element carries its own source language instead of just one for the whole installation - handy when, say, a third-party module always delivers English object names while the rest of your visualization is maintained in German. Directly editable as part of the Pro Edition; usable in every edition via a simple multi-pass scan too (see the FAQ).
Define your own, guaranteed-correct translations for specific terms or phrases - just like "Object names", in a table with a "Source language" column and one column per target language, with a new entry added via an "Add" button. Whenever a stored source text turns up anywhere in your visualization, this entry is always used instead of querying Google/DeepL/MyMemory for an online translation. Handy for brand names, terminology, or text that automatic translation keeps getting wrong.
The glossary is a table of its own, holding about 30 ready-made entries for common home-automation units (°C, kg, km/h, hPa, kWh, ...) and the 16-point compass rose across 9 languages - avoiding wasted, and sometimes outright wrong, automatic translations for short number-plus-unit texts (e.g. °C → °F). It has one column per language and no source language: “km/h” therefore needs exactly one row, whatever source language the part of your visualization happens to use. Compass directions are deliberately preset per language rather than just passed through (German “O” = East, Spanish “O” = Oeste/West). Any entry can be deleted without coming back on the next rescan, and your own translations keep priority. Editable from the Standard edition - the glossary itself is applied in every edition.
If another module or script changes the value of a tracked "custom text" (e.g. a weather script updates a displayed string variable on its next update), Simple Locale automatically re-translates it live into the currently active language – no action needed on your part. A built-in cache only re-translates values that actually changed: for a typical weather tile with around 20 text fragments (weekdays, forecast, sunrise/sunset, current readings) updating every 10 minutes, that saves over 80% of translation calls per day and target language compared to fully re-translating on every update.
Captions of variable presentations (e.g. enumeration options) can be translated per instance, without altering a shared profile/template used by other variables.
A native dropdown right in the visualization – no extra module, no extra variable needed. Globe and info icons can optionally be hidden.
Customize the language-selection tile to match your design right in the configuration form via editable HTML code (starting point is a working copy of the built-in tile) - or build a fully standalone tile via script if you need to (two commands give you the available languages and switch the active one). Part of the Pro edition.
Out of the box, Simple Locale translates for free via MyMemory, no account of your own needed. Google Cloud Translate and/or DeepL can be added as optional extras - if a provider fails (daily quota exhausted, pricing model changed, key expired, server down), the next one in the chain automatically takes over. From the Standard edition upward, the free allowances of Google, DeepL and MyMemory are even actively combined rather than just switched over on failure - once one runs out, the next automatically takes over, often letting you skip a paid plan with the providers altogether. Already-translated text is unaffected either way: the cache is always checked first, so a known text delivers its translation regardless of the current quota state - only a genuinely new, never-before-translated text would briefly stay untranslated if every configured provider happened to be exhausted at the exact same moment.
Every language switch checks the license key entirely offline (Ed25519 signature) – no license server needed during operation. After the first activation, the module just checks in briefly once a day in the background to see whether the license is still active (see FAQ) - a network error there never locks anything out by mistake, the last known state is simply kept. Activations are detected and reported as part of that same check-in – the same key showing up on multiple different IP-Symcon installations is a sign of unauthorized sharing.
Simple Locale does not collect or store the content of your visualization. Translation requests are sent directly from your IP-Symcon installation to your chosen translation provider - for Google Cloud Translate and DeepL, using your own API key. Google confirms that submitted content is used solely to provide the translation service and is not used to train Google's translation models. See our privacy policy for details. Every connection - to the translation providers as well as to our license server - runs encrypted over HTTPS.
All future module updates are included in the purchase price – no subscription, no expiry, always the latest version.
